You can easily incorporate Japanese serenity into your own home decorating style, without entirely changing everything in your home décor. The first thing you should do is take some time to learn more about Japanese home decorating, so that you can develop a basic plan to use in decorating your own home. With that plan in mind, you can decide what items you want to purchase, and what you changes you want to make to each room in your home. The ultimate goal of Japanese home decorating is to achieve simplicity, little color, few details, and just basic design elements such as silk screens or mats placed in certain places throughout the room. Bright colors can often affect one’s mood, which is the reason why little color is used in traditional Japanese style home décor.
Most Japanese design elements use natural light, such as beautiful paper screens, and windows dressed with the barest fabrics, so that light can shine through, but very little can be seen from outside the home looking in. When choosing curtains for your Japanese home décor, you should choose those made from light, airy fabrics, and if you are truly going the traditional route, they should be either cream or white in color. Your windows should be bare except for these treatments. Homes are built with very open floor plans, with no walls separating the different rooms of the homes, using screens or mats where walls would usually be found instead. Very few accessories are used, as Japanese homes are also usually free of clutter, only having essential items at hand throughout the home.
You should decide how far you want to go with your Japanese home decorating plan, obviously, you aren’t going to tear down the walls in your home, or throw out your belongings, but you can still have that overall Japanese feel to your rooms, with a little work. One thing that you can do is buy Japanese styled furniture items, which are usually all black in color, regardless of the material they have been crafted from. Furniture also tends to be made of clean, straight lines, so keep that in mind as well. Again, you aren’t likely to go out and purchase all new furniture just for your home decorating project, but as you replace certain pieces throughout your home, as we all do from time to time, keep in mind your Japanese home decorating theme, and look for furniture in keeping with that theme, if possible.
When it comes to flooring, most Japanese homes are designed with basic hardwood flooring, which is always left bare, no carpeting, no rugs. If you already have hardwood in your home, then this will be an easy home decorating element for you to pull off, if not, you may have to skip this one, unless you are willing to redo all of the floors in your home, which few people are. If you replace your flooring at anytime in the future, which you may have to at some point due to normal wear and tear, you may want to think about going with traditional hardwood, which will enhance your Japanese design elements that you have incorporated into your home décor.
If you do purchase accessories for your home, look for those items that are made from raw elements, such as wood or stone, as these would typically be found in a typical Japanese designed home. These items are loved for their natural simplicity, and don’t have to be ornate to add beauty to your home décor.
It is fairly easy to incorporate a few Japanese design elements into your home decorating plan, but if you really want to go all out, you will end up spending a lot of money to create a traditional Japanese inspired home. If you slowly develop your Japanese themed home décor, adding a piece here and there along the way, you will find that it is much easier on your budget, and you can adjust to the changes much easier than if you tried to do them all at the same time.
